Plant Oxford – The home of Mini

Last month, Members met up for their first tour of 2020, at the Mini Factory Plant in Oxford.

Unfortunately, the small museum was not available to us because of a press function, but members enjoyed seeing the new electric Mini being driven around by the press.
Nonetheless, they all piled into the tour bus and set off.

Les Green had this to say ” Although this wasn’t the first modern car production line I have been lucky enough to visit, I am still amazed just how they have changed since my very first tour, which was around Fords at Dagenham, back in the late sixties. The Mini production line is a fine example of how general conditions and production techniques have improved for the better.

They are now bright, clean and full of robots, although it was good to see that humans still play an important part in production!

Our guide gave us a very clear and knowledgeable account of all that occurred and how high standards are maintained. She also tempted us with an introduction to the, soon to be launched, all electric Mini. I must admit I’m tempted.”
