The Beaulieu One Hundred visit to the Bovington Tank Museum on Thursday 21 April may not have had broad appeal but the enthusiasm among the seven members and guests that attended combined with that of our guide, the Museum’s CEO Richard Smith, more than made up for it. Richard is a historian whose university dissertation was on World War One tanks – a natural for the job he now finds himself in! His enthusiasm for his topic was infectious and his dialogue focused on the way the tanks reflected the national characteristics of the nations that made them. It was a fascinating insight into the strengths and weaknesses of the various approaches and the significantly different solutions this produced to the same problems.
Unbelievably within our party was one member who actually owns a tank! In fact, he actually owns FIFTEEN tanks!
